Charge to the EarthScope CyberInfrastructure Subcommittee (ECISC)

A robust cyberinfrastructure is required for EarthScope to achieve its potential. In addition to information technology issues surrounding data flow from EarthScope facilities, a strong cyberinfrastructure effort is needed to insure ease of access to these data, EarthScope data products, software tools, and workflows for data analysis, integration, modeling, and interpretation. It is critical that cyberinfrastructure is developed that is consistent with user community needs in meeting EarthScope science goals.

Specific issues the EarthScope Cyberinfrastructure Subcommittee will address:

• Coordinate with EarthScope facilities and the ESNO to insure that EarthScope data are presented to a broad user community in a user-friendly manner.

• Coordinate with the EarthScope portal group to increase its content and usability.

• Solicit community input and make recommendations on cyberinfrastructure needs to meet EarthScope science goals.

• Evaluate and make recommendations on EarthScope data products to meet community needs and EarthScope science goals.

• Promote sharing, development, and improvements of software tools, and devise methods to credit authors of these tools for their efforts.

• Identify and promote the use of databases that complement EarthScope data and products.

• Promote the integration of a wide range of geoscience data into databases useable by the EarthScope community.

• Coordinate with other existing and emerging geoscience cyberinfrastructure efforts.

• Coordinate with the cyberinfrastructure efforts of Federal and state agencies as well as international groups.

The EarthScope cyberinfrastructure committee is a subcommittee of the EarthScope Steering Committee (ESSC) and will provide advice and make recommendations to the ESSC. Members of the subcommittee should have expertise in earth science cyberinfrastructure and should represent a broad array of earth science disciplines. The chair of the cyberinfrastructure committee will be a member of the ESSC.
